40 years ago this month, we opened our first quick print shop to the public, kind of by accident.
We needed the printshop to get our own printing done quicker for our ad agency...... the tiny one person print shop was never planned to be a 'real business'. Who would ever have known? Then people in the business community began to beg us to print for them so they wouldn't have to wait 3 weeks for stationery.
Then the CPA said, 'take a look at your 1st year's P&L', and a new career was born.
So today I want to say thanks to all the printers I know for being available to talk to me over the years, when I had questions or just scared to death, for sharing a laugh, friendship and insights w/me-- all across the country over these years. You know who you are.
In those early days, there was no one to talk shop with. We found other quick print owners by looking in different phone books at the library in different states. We called and visited the nearby ones. We all shared what we knew on regular phone calls. Sure wasn't much info back then but it all worked out nicely. Oh, and the 'real printers' thought we were a joke for the first 20 years.
So as someone said, I have an attitude of gratitude. Everything is still as it was back then: ongoing change and friendly print owners.
Best, Larry
