Iceland has hydrogen producing "gas" pumps - but their electricity is
produced from really really cheap geothermal sources that create steam
to spin turbines. Sitting on top of some *very* hot earth has some nice
perks: outdoor hot water baths all year round, heated streets and
sidewalks, heated greenhouses to grow food, lots of juicy electrons to
lavish on creating hydrogen gas to fuel cars. Iceland is energy self
sufficient. Of course, you also have the occasional volcanic eruption or
two :-0
National Geographic did a nice article on Iceland recently.
I think the closest we have to a similar geothermal situation would be
Yellowstone.
