==================
Four Pounds ($8.00) a trip is the base rate. If you used it every day you
can get passes, or deals of some kind. But with four of us it was way less
to just take a taxi several time, depending on how far it was. Or busses.
We did trains too. And LOTS of walking.
And stairs everywhere.
And cobble stones and uneven paving stones, and worn out stairs. I never
fell, but I almost tripped many times. I saw several people tumble, one
poor guy landed right on his nose and was bleeding all over the street. And
the idiot signs that say "Mind the step" and "Mind your head" don't really
help a lot.
I really enjoyed driving over there. The roads are so narrow, with stone
walls and hedge rows you couldn't possibly pull over, so the cops don't even
bother to try pulling anyone over. There are almost no stop signs. All
intersections are Yields or as they put it "Give way". And the traffic just
moves right along. In city speed limit is 30 MPH as opposed to our 25 or in
downtown Port Townsend 20. And when you hit the end of a town, they have
end signs and it's right back to 50 or 60. Excellent signage for curves and
narrow spots and stuff. Terrible signage for directions. My wife and I took
turns as driver or navigator and both agree, that navigator is far harder.
I'm heading home, it's midnight in England. Almost made it through the
whole day.
