[PrintOwners] RE: ? Creo vs Fiery

Three more comments, having read others' reponses:

1. The external Fiery has controls for correcting skew, as well as
offsets, when positioning an image on the paper. The Creo corrects
only for position offsets, not skew. This is the ONLY respect in
which we have found the Creo's functionality to be less than that of
the Fiery, and, so far, we've always been able to get "close enough"
by "splitting the difference" on the offsets to minimize the effect
of any skew.

2. The Creo box looks like fairly generic PC hardware. Other than the
SCSI port that is its connection to the C500 (and, as I recall, a
dongle of some sort), everything looked pretty much like any of the
other P4 boxes we're using.

3. There are a lot more Fiery boxes in our area (Philadelphia and
suburbs) than Creos. The KM techie has told me that he's much less
familiar with the Creo, and, as of about 6 months ago, we were the
only one in his area. That hasn't been a problem for us, between
reading the manual and the occasional question I've posted on this
list. You might want to ask your local KM techie, but, IMO, the color
superiority of the Creo is worth having, and, IMO, you need to be
able to use and understand software manuals (or have an employee who
can) if you're serious about digital printing.

YMMV,
Steve
