I'd hardly call myself an expert here, but I'm one of the few who've
owned both, so I thought I'd chime in. I should preface it by saying
we had a Fiery on our 2045, and a Creo on our 6060, so Fiery may have
made some advances in their programs since then.
Fiery:
Pros: Variable data support.
Cons: Lack of color control
Overall: I don't use the variable data, and anyone who has additional
programs (InDesign) can probably work around that. The lack of color
control can actually be a blessing in disguise sometimes. As with any
else, the less you can adjust, the less you can mess up.
Creo:
Pros: Image clean-up, color control.
Cons: PMS matching not as good off the bat, no variable data support.
Overall: With Creo if a PMS doesn't match, you can adjust the values
for it. Which is great, but I feel like the Fiery hit it spot on more
often. Again, with the Creo, if it doesn't, you can fix it. Also you
can adjust CMYK levels through out the piece if it needed.
Overall my vote is STRONGLY for the creo. We've seen much better
results with it, and the image clean-up allows to print lo-res images
with much better results. I have never had a color customer who
wasn't amazed by our work, and every customer who has left for lower
prices has returned for better quality. That being said, the 6060
gets a lot of credit for that too, even though I'm still excited about
the new Canon's, and may look into making another bad decision when
the 6000 comes out.
How's that for logorrhea Dan?
