I largely agree with John here, its highly unlike they the foam is the  
problem.  I'm new to large format as well, and we encountered some  
issues at first as well.  Is your problem getting a smooth edge on  
cuts?  If so, your table probably isn't flat.  You need a completely  
flat, straight, table.  We also use a javelin to cut, its made by  
foster, and its phenomal.  Straight, accurate cuts, every time.  Go to  
charrette.com and search for part no: 60182, but there's no  
information on charrette's site about it, so you may have to do some  
additional research.  It comes from 40" - 120"
