While I normally bow to the self proclaimed God of Mailing, Mr. Thomas
Guylas, I have to interject here. If we had only kept one year's worth of
mailing receipts for the one client we had try to claim fraud, we would have
been, well, what is the word, SCREWED. She tried to claim fraud on the past
three year's worth of mailings, saying if we didn't mail one, we didn't mail
any. AmEx did not back us on anything, and it was the tale of the tape that
proved us right. We would have been on the hook for all of them, all paid
with AmEx, without proper documentation. I faxed her page after page after
page of mailing receipts so that she knew, and the lawyer knew, that all our
ducks were in a row. Then again, I was a paralegal in a past life (before my
husband made me so happy selling printing) so I am neurotic!
I say cover your butt and keep everything, scan it to PDF if you are out of
room, and then get out there and sell something to someone! Come on guys,
it’s not rocket science!
